SILICONE SEALANTS FOR TRADE PROFESSIONALS

Silicone sealants designed for residential and commercial use.

A range of silicones suitable for all sealing applications, including front of wall, high-end architectural sealing and back of wall sealing. They are easy-to-apply, non-slumping and offer good longevity.

Soudal offer the two main silicone formulations – neutral cure silicone and acetic cure silicone, below we teach you the differences between the two types.

Roof & Gutter Silicone | Exterior sealant

A highly UV-resistant neutral-cure silicone. It is easy-to-apply and creates a fully elastic joint and delivers permanent colour.

Applications

  • Suitable for roofing, flashing, skylights and guttering in building construction.
  • Sealing applications, high-end architectural front of wall and back of wall sealing.
  • Construction joints, sealing between treated wood, glass and other general sealing applications.

Available at leading hardware stores nationwide.

Features & Benefits

  • Very easy application
  • Great UV-resistance
  • Permanent colour
  • Highly durable
  • Good workable time
  • Stays elastic after curing, creating a lasting seal
  • Very good adhesion on many material
  • Impervious to mould
  • Corrosion free

Bathroom & Kitchen Silicone | Anti-mould sealant

A high-quality formulation that inhibits mould. It creates an elastic joint for excellent long-term performance in areas that are affected by high humidity and moisture. A neutral-cure sealant, which is easy-to-use and delivers permanent colour.

Applications:

  • Ideal for sealing in residential and commercial buildings (both high-end architectural sealing front of wall and back of wall)
  • Sealing in wet area applications – bathrooms, toilets, showers, kitchens, cleanrooms, and environments where food is handled and stored.

Available at leading hardware stores nationwide.

Features & Benefits

  • Excellent moisture & mould resistance
  • Interior & exterior
  • Waterproof
  • Long open time, good workability
  • Non-slump
  • Permanently elastic after curing, creating a lasting seal
  • Low modulus
  • Corrosion free

General Purpose Silicone | Multi-use sealant

A fast-curing, easy-to-apply, neutral-cure sealant. It creates a highly elastic joint and delivers permanent colour and UV resistance.

Applications:

  • Great for building and construction joints.
  • Sealing for all common front and back of wall jobs, including between PVC, glass, plumbing fittings, around windows, vents and openings.
  • Top-sealing of glazing jobs.
  • Sealing between treated wood and glass.

Available at leading hardware stores nationwide.

Features & Benefits

  • Non-sag
  • Fast skinning
  • Waterproof
  • UV resistant
  • Neutral cure sealant
  • Very easy application
  • Permanent colour
  • Stays elastic after curing
  • Very good adhesion on many materials
  • Low modulus

Electrical Silicone | Non-corrosive sealant

An easy-to-apply, electrical-grade neutral cure silicone. It remains fully elastic once cured and delivers permanent colour and UV resistance.

Applications:

Gorilla Electrical Silicone’s non-corrosive properties make it well-suited for electrical applications such as conduit, terminal boxes, component mounting, cover plates, and conductor entry boxes where an appropriate seal needs to be maintained.

Available at leading hardware stores nationwide.

Features & Benefits

  • Non-corrosive
  • Waterproof
  • UV resistant
  • Fast skinning
  • Neutral cure

Glass & Ceramic Silicone | Acetic cure sealant

A high-quality elastic sealant that offers superior adhesion, is easy-to-apply and fast skinning.

Applications

  • Ideal for building and construction joints; e.g. glazing and connection joints
  • Sealing elastic joints in cold stores and container applications
  • Sealing in air conditioning systems
  • Great for expansion joints between tiles, tubs, and sinks
  • Sealing in showers
  • Forming expansion joints between walls and floors

  • Inhibits the growth of mould and mildew
  • Interior and exterior
  • Waterproof
  • Fast skinning
  • Acetic cure
  • Stays elastic after curing
  • UV-resistant
  • Easy application

MS Polymers vs. Silicones | Which one should you use?

Silicones and MS polymers are widely used as sealants and adhesives in the construction industry.

Silicone is made from silicone polymers whereas MS polymers, also known as hybrid polymers, combine the best properties of silicone and polyurethane without being the same as either substance. Each has distinct properties, applications and advantages.

In this article, we break down the key differences to help you choose the right product for your next job.

We cover:

  • Structure sealing
  • Adhesion & Bonding Strength
  • Elasticity & Flexibility
  • Resistance to Environmental Factors
  • Curing Time & Process

SILICONE TYPES

There are two main types of silicone sealants, knowing the difference between the two will help you choose the best product for your next sealing job.

Neutral-cure silicones are sealants that do not release an acidic substance while curing. They are virtually odour-free, making them a popular sealant choice for sensitive surfaces.

Acetic-cure silicones are sealants known for their quick curing process and strong adhesion properties. They are formulated with a mixture of silicone elastomers and fillers. During the curing process they release acetic acid, which smells like vinegar.

This type of silicone is particularly good for adhering to tiles as they etch into the surface. We recommend testing before using this type of silicone, as the etching or biting process can be harsh on some substrates.
