Silicone Sealants
Silicone sealants from Soudal covers bathroom and kitchen use, roofing and guttering, glazing, high-temperature applications, and general-purpose sealing, in a neutral-cure formulations. The range spans clear and coloured options, from 300ml cartridges through to 600ml sausages for higher-volume application, with each product formulated for a specific exposure condition rather than sold as one universal seal.
Bathroom and kitchen silicones have additional fungicides added to prevent to prevent mould growth in wet areas, while roof and gutter variants carry stronger UV stabilisation to handle constant sun exposure without yellowing or cracking. An ultra-low VOC line is available with 100% silicone and no added solvents, suited to occupied spaces during application. High-temperature variants are designed to withstand continuous exposure up to 280°C for automotive and industrial use, and the range extends to electrical, and cleanroom-specific silicones for niche trade applications. See the full Sealants range for MS Polymer and fire rated alternatives.
Choosing the right silicone sealant
Wet areas. A mould-resistant bathroom and kitchen silicone, formulated to inhibit mould around baths, showers, sinks, and laundries.
Roofing and guttering. A UV-stabilised roof and gutter silicone, formulated for fast skinning to reduce dust pickup during cure and to resist constant sun exposure.
General building use. An all-purpose silicone for standard internal and external sealing jobs that don’t need a specialist wet-area or high-heat formulation.
High heat exposure. A high-temperature silicone rated to 280°C, for engine bays, flues, and other continuous-heat applications.
Hygiene-critical environments. A cleanroom-grade silicone, formulated for laboratories, cleanrooms, and other environments where a neutral-cure, low-odour product is required.
Bath, tile, and masonry work. Bath and tile, or brick and concrete silicones for hard-surface sealing around wet areas, walls, and floors.
Technical differentiators
- Cure type: Neutral cure (broader substrate compatibility, including some metals and natural stone)
- VOC level: Standard formulations through to an ultra-low VOC line
- Temperature range: Standard silicones to around 150°C; specialist high-temp variants to 280°C
- Mould resistance: Fungicide additives in bathroom, kitchen, and sanitary-specific products
Silicone sealant application guidance
Silicone sealants are not paintable, so confirm the joint won’t need to be painted before specifying it over an MS Polymer alternative. Clean the joint of old sealant, soap scum, or grease with a proprietary silicone remover, since silicone won’t bond well over contamination. Mask either side of the joint for a straight line, tool within the stated open time, and remove masking before the surface skins. Ventilate the area during application and cure, particularly with high-temp formulations, and avoid water contact on the joint until the silicone has skinned over.

Silicone sealant FAQs
What is the best silicone sealant for a bathroom?
A mould-resistant sanitary silicone, formulated with additives for continuous wet-area exposure around baths, showers, and vanities.
Is silicone sealant waterproof?
Yes, once fully cured. Soudal silicone sealants form a waterproof, flexible seal suited to wet areas, roofing, and guttering applications.
Can silicone sealant be painted over?
No. Silicone sealants repel paint due to their surface chemistry. If a joint needs to be painted, use an MS Polymer or polyurethane sealant instead.
How long does silicone sealant take to dry?
Most Soudal silicones form a skin within 10-20 minutes and reach full cure within 24 hours to 7 days, depending on bead depth and humidity.
Can silicone sealant be used outdoors?
Yes. Roof and gutter silicone formulations are UV-stabilised specifically for exterior exposure, including constant sun and weathering.
