How to choose the right packers or wedges

Selection depends on the gap width needed, the substrate, and how many packing points the installation requires.

Standard window and door installation. Colour-coded H packers in starter pack or single pack format cover the common thickness range used to level and space a frame before fixing and sealing.

LVL and steel residential framing. ‘Rolled’ steel framing is often lighter than timber framing, and instead of being a standard 90mm in depth is often at 80mm.

LVL timber framing is no different in weight than mass timber framing, often it is lighter due to not having the moisture content within the timber.

Bulk or mixed-thickness jobs. A mixed-pack of U packers in a carry bucket suits jobs needing several different thicknesses on hand without buying single packs of each size.

Building up precise gaps. Stackable, click-together H packers combine to reach a specific combined thickness without the pieces shifting once clicked together, useful where a single packer size doesn’t quite match the gap.

Very tight or non-standard gaps. Plastic or wooden wedges suit gaps that need a tapered or slim packing solution rather than a fixed-thickness packer.
